Phunkshun is still our go-to company for face masks for the following reasons: they give back to the industry, are made in Colorado, and most importantly, work very well. We’ve talked about the Single Layer Trunk and the Fleece Lined DL in the past, and now we have a happy medium. The Phunkshun Double Layer Trunk is similar to Phunkshun’s original Single Layer, but has a layer of mesh on the inside for a little bit of extra warmth and coverage.
The Double Layer includes the staple Phunkshun features which will make it hard for me to ever use a facemask without these features! The DL Trunk is anti-microbial so I won’t stink up the gondola, UPF 50+ for ultimate protection from the sun, and is water resistant.
There is more to the DL Trunk than slapping two fabrics together and calling it a double layer. Phunkshun explains that the outer layer stretch polyester and inner mesh layer “create a neutral air zone between fabrics, keeping the temperature inside the mask stable.”
Phunkshun conveniently provides us with a snowflake rating scale of 1-5 snowflakes. The DL Trunk comes in on the warmth scale with 3 snowflakes. I think it’s safe to say that this will be the average temperature day go-to for facemasks. They have many different masks to choose from including a merino line, different weights, and tons of different colors and patterns.
Keep in mind that while it’s really wonderful to have a warm face, it is important to protect against sunburn too! The sun is powerful and can be very damaging to your mug so wear sunscreen or a mask or both.
