The last time I used solar in the backcountry, I was a three day walk from the nearest road and we powered a satellite phone from it. I hadn’t thought about it much since then, until I met with the folks at Goal Zero in Salt Lake City.
Rechargeable devices are becoming more mainstream and the solar units are lighter weight and more durable. Now I can leave the batteries at home and bring one charging unit.
These are my initial thoughts (and much excitement) as I plug my iPhone into the Nomad 7 for the first time.
