The Alpine Stretch Jacket by Montane is classified as a lightweight mountain softshell jacket, but it’s not your ordinary softshell. The Chameleon fabric allows for a plethora of features that you wouldn’t normally get in a softshell material. This overly stretchy material allows for “dynamic body movement,” breathability, and water repellency.
The Alpine Stretch is perfect for ice climbing or mountaineering, but is very versatile and usable throughout any season. Whether in the hood, bottom hem, or wrists, this jacket is also very adjustable so you are sure to get a perfect fit. Montane is out if the UK so definitely keep that in mind when deciding your size. I sized up and am glad I did. I’m normally a large but went with and extra large. I think I could’ve pulled off the large, I just wanted ample room for layering underneath.
The roomy pockets make for easy organization on any outdoor expedition, with two hand pockets and two map sized chest pockets which additionally help with ventilation as needed. The hand pockets are lined with micro fleece for extra comfort and what is exceptionally nice is the fleece beard guard around the face.
For a lightweight, breathable, and comfortable softshell jacket, the Alpine Stretch is perfect. If you’re looking for an insulated cold weather jacket, I’d look at Montane’s down jackets! They have gear for any outdoor adventure!
